RIU Hotels & Resorts To Lead Jamaica’s Hospitality Revival With Full Hotel Reopenings!

The hospitality industry in Jamaica is bouncing back, and one of the most important indicators of this is the decision of RIU Hotels & Resorts to reopen all of its seven Jamaican hotels before the year is out. This reopening is a major plus for the island’s tourism industry that has been suffering a lot since the earlier this year Hurricane Melissa. By quickly restarting its operations, RIU not only proves its loyalty to the island but also underlines its importance as a partner in the recovery and growth of Jamaica’s tourism sector.

Phased Reopening to Restore Confidence

In a strategic approach to recovery, RIU Hotels is reopening its properties in phases. The RIU Ocho Rios, one of the least affected areas by the hurricane, has already resumed full operations. Meanwhile, the RIU Montego Bay reopened its doors on November 23, 2025, and the RIU Palace Jamaica welcomed guests once again on November 24. These key reopenings mark the first phase of the chain’s full return to operations in Jamaica. Four more properties, including the RIU Reggae, RIU Negril, RIU Palace Tropical Bay, and RIU Palace Aquarelle, are expected to follow suit, with tentative opening dates between November 30 and December 15, 2025.

For those visiting Jamaica, this revitalisation of such a renowned hotel chain will undoubtedly boost the island’s appeal. With the return of charter flights from major markets like Canada, the UK, and the Netherlands, guests can look forward to enjoying a full range of services at RIU’s properties, which span across Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Falmouth.

Swift Recovery Efforts and Infrastructure Restoration

The recovery process at RIU Hotels in Jamaica has been impressively swift. The hotel group’s operational and technical teams wasted no time in assessing the damage and initiating repair works. One of the main challenges they faced was restoring essential utilities such as water and electricity. Thanks to their efforts, all these services have now been fully restored across all affected destinations.

The speed of this recovery process not only underscores RIU’s commitment to Jamaica but also plays an essential role in ensuring the island’s tourism sector can recover as quickly as possible, providing visitors with a seamless and enjoyable holiday experience. The brand’s hotels are now poised to meet the surge in demand for travel to the Caribbean in the coming months.

A Commitment to Staff and Community Support

Beyond its operational efforts, RIU Hotels has shown an extraordinary commitment to the people of Jamaica. As part of the company’s Proudly Committed strategy, which focuses on supporting local communities, RIU has allocated 1 million USD in aid. A significant portion, 80%, has been directed to supporting employees. This includes 570,000 USD for the reconstruction of homes and $230,000 in emergency aid packages containing essential supplies.

Additionally, an interest-free credit line of 1.3 million USD has been provided to help employees manage the damages they faced during the hurricane. The remaining 20 percent of the fund is earmarked for the Jamaican community. RIU has partnered with the Jamaica Basic School Foundation to distribute over 1,750 support packages to isolated areas. The hotel group has also worked with the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) to prepare and deliver more than 7,000 meals daily, helping to both feed those in need and provide temporary employment to their staff.

Boosting Competition and Strengthening Jamaica’s Appeal

RIU Hotels’ reinvestment in Jamaica will also increase competition in the local hospitality market, benefiting both the tourism industry and local travellers. With seven properties offering more than 4,000 rooms across prime Jamaican locations, RIU is set to be a formidable competitor to other international hotel chains and local resorts. As one of the most recognisable hotel brands in the Caribbean, RIU’s return will help maintain Jamaica’s standing as a key destination for international tourists, ensuring that it remains a top choice for holidaymakers seeking an all-inclusive, high-quality resort experience.

Jamaica has long been a staple in the Caribbean tourism industry, and the reopening of RIU’s hotels comes at a crucial time, just as the destination looks to bounce back from the recent crisis. The island’s tourism recovery strategy will be significantly supported by the return of such a large and influential player in the hospitality sector.

RIU’s Long-Term Commitment to Jamaica

With over 24 years of operations in Jamaica, RIU Hotels & Resorts has demonstrated its long-term commitment to the island’s growth. The recent opening of the RIU Palace Aquarelle further exemplifies the brand’s dedication to the destination. The chain’s decision to expand in Jamaica speaks volumes about the island’s importance in their Caribbean portfolio, and its growing potential as a top-tier vacation destination.

As a key employer in Jamaica, with over 4,000 staff members, RIU’s operations play a vital role in sustaining the local economy. This long-standing relationship with the island will continue to positively impact both the tourism sector and the broader community, further cementing RIU as an essential pillar in Jamaica’s hospitality landscape.

What Next?

RIU Hotels’ reopening all seven locations in Jamaica by the end of the year marks not only the brand’s resilience and dedication but also a larger recovery of the island’s touristic sector. This move is expected to increase the rivalry among hotels, improve the perception of Jamaica as a tourist destination, and provide essential help to the local people and employees. The island is still in the rebuilding and growth process, and the fact that RIU is leading the way in recovery is certainly a signal of its lasting presence in the Caribbean’s hospitality future.
